The SPSCIC steering group is a relatively informal group of volunteers who represent the interests of a wide spectrum of the community. Anyone can participate as a supporter of SPSCIC, and any supporter can apply to join or leave the steering group at any time. There are no legal responsibilities or disclosures required, athough the SPSCIC needs to hold contact information so it can keep its supporters informed.

The steering group holds regular meetings which the SPSCIC directors are expected to attend and participate in. The directors are expected to present their progress for discussion by the steering group. These meetings are minuted and the minutes form a record of the wishes of the community, in particular for the nature and priority of work on the shoreline. The directors must take full account of these in order to fulfil their legal duty.
