The following objectives form part of the memorandum of association under which SPSCIC is registered.

1. Maintain public access to the Shotley Peninsula shoreline from adjoining land and water;

2. Repair, maintain and improve cliff and sea defences for which no statutory body has taken responsibility;

3. Monitor, conserve and protect the natural environment of the shoreline with the support of marine and community organisations.

SPSCIC has adopted the following definitions to limit the scope of its responsibilities:

Shoreline: All land from the tidal low water mark up to and including the first registered public footpath inland.

Peninsula: The land bounded by the rivers Orwell and Stour and a line drawn between the last permanent road crossings of these rivers.

Sea defences: natural or man-made structures which reduce the risk of flooding and erosion
